IGS school art project: Tile Mosaic

What could make a school building more colourful and beautiful than decorating it with home-made tiles? This year all 3rd and 4th graders were invited to participate in a school art project to create tiles for the entrance of the school building. The aim of the art project, a tile mosaic, was to show a world where man and nature live in harmony.

In their art classes, the children learned how to make tiles out of clay and how to create a relief on them. The tiles were fired, painted with glaze by the children and fired again. This resulted in over 170 art tiles that were glued to the entrance staircase.

It took several months and a lot of work to complete the project. Was it worth it? Yes, of course it was! Whenever you enter the school building, you can’t help but notice the visual pleasure of the tile mosaic and how it brightens up the space. On top of that, this work was chosen as one of the top three art projects in the SIS Art Competition for the school year 23-24.
