A week full of new experiences, adventures and thoughts lies behind class 3a of the IGS. In April, members of the Freie Hospizverein Erzgebirgsvorland visited us to talk to the children about becoming and passing, loss, grief and comfort. These important topics are neglected in everyday school life, but affect everyone sooner or later in life. Each day of our week had a different theme. For example, we were visited by a pediatrician who openly and sensitively answered a wide range of questions from the pupils about "illness and suffering". When it came to comforting, we planted bean seedlings and learned how to take responsibility for a living being.
The parents were directly involved and learned everything they needed to know about this special project week in advance at a parents' evening organized by the association's volunteers. At the end, the parents were invited to a small party where the children were able to show what they had learned and worked on during the week.
We would like to thank the members of the Hospice Association and Dr. Meszaros-Funke for this project week, which was so enriching for everyone.
