What happens after elementary school? To answer this question, our third-graders were able to visit the International Grammar School Meerane "Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi" in September and experience a taster day.
After our welcome, we were warmly greeted by Mr. Trenkel in the impressive assembly hall. During a guided tour of the large school building, the students were able to get a first impression of IGM. Some eyes were already shining after Ms. Sommer and Mr. Trenkel showed us some classrooms, SOL areas and the canteen as well as the fitness room and the school club.
Magic numbers
After a short review of basic arithmetic operations, our pupils were given some number puzzles with "Teacher Thamm". They were also given an insight into what to expect in Year 5. They were able to solve a small task in the area of fractions by solving an illustrative cake puzzle.
HOLA!
Our third graders are already diligently attending Spanish lessons with Ms. Tornow and Ms. Vasquez. After a short Spanish introduction round with Senor Lora, they were able to work on the topic of "fruta" and "Me gusta el mandarina" or "Me gusta el pera" could be heard at every corner.
Small things really big
Secondary school also means that there are some new subjects for the pupils and so our third graders were able to immerse themselves in the world of biology. Spider legs, house dust mites and small fleas could be examined through the microscope.
Around the world
Since the third graders already hear and speak English every day at school, it was not difficult for them to communicate with Ms. Schrock in English class. The focus here was on the topic of "animals". They proudly left the classroom after mastering the difficult word "hippopotamus".
We would like to thank IGM Meerane and the principal Mrs. Sommer for the opportunity to get a taste of everyday life at the grammar school. Our third graders were able to gather a lot of impressions on this day. Many of them will certainly come back in two years' time. Then as proud new pupils of the 5th grade in the school year 2027/2028...
