For the new school year, 3 boys and 3 girls between the ages of 8 and 10 have come together who enjoy interacting with older people. On the one hand, they already have experience from their immediate family environment, on the other hand, they want to get to know the world of senior citizens in a day care facility and maintain contact with people.
We meet every Thursday in our AG hour to prepare joint meetings of the Diakonie day care facility and our group. We chat, make small gifts, collect ideas, write letters, create games and much more.
So far, 2 meetings have already taken place. In December 2023, the senior citizens and their carers visited us for our Christmas carol singing on the last day of school before Christmas. Everyone visibly enjoyed singing the well-known songs and we enjoyed the contemplative atmosphere. Afterwards, we were able to sit together and share experiences over coffee, tea and gingerbread.
In February 2024, we visited the Diakonie day care center on site and the children were thrilled and surprised at what there was to discover. They were able to try out lots of things, such as the sit-to-stand aid, and we got to know the premises and some of the guests and care staff better. It was an all-round successful visit and a great experience for everyone.
We are now hoping for many more meetings and a lively exchange between young and old.
