DLRG and school

Every 2 years, the German Lifesaving Society awards the "DLRG and School" sponsorship prize. This award is intended to honor schools that are particularly committed to swimming education. Although "knowing how to swim" is very important for our children, according to NIVEA and the DLRG only one in two children under the age of 10 can swim safely.

Since we at the International Primary School Glauchau have set ourselves the goal of seeing all children off from elementary school with the bronze swimming badge if possible, we have been offering one-week swimming camps in addition to the normal swimming lessons in grade 2 for more than 3 years now during the summer and winter vacations. This has enabled us to achieve that 91% of our students finish elementary school with a swimming badge. This commitment was honored at the end of 2022 with the promotion award "DLRG and School". This makes our school the first and so far the only one in Central Germany to receive this award.

In the future, the cooperation between the local DLRG and our elementary school will be deepened. A first course already took place in summer 2022, where 5 lifeguards could be trained for our school. Further projects and courses are to follow.
